New York, New York - Lainie's Angels (www.lainiesangels.org), a
non-profit foundation and leading provider of peer support for parents
of children living with cancer and blood disorders, today announced it
will be having its annual spring fundraiser COMICS FOR KIDS 2007 on
Wednesday, May 16th from 6:00 – 10:00pm at the legendary Caroline's on
Broadway (www.carolines.com) at 1626 Broadway, New York, NY (between
49th & 50th streets). Emceeing the event will be Ann Design, and will
feature comics Mike Dillon, Ellen Karis and Rick Younger. The event
will also include a cocktail hour, and a silent auction.
"Lainie's Angels is very excited to be partnering with Caroline's on
Broadway and our good friend and comedienne, Ellen Karis, to once again
present Comics for Kids. Laughter truly is one of the best medicines and
presenting our message of hope and compassion through the talents of
wonderful comedians, is a great way to spread our message about the
work our parent advocates are doing, here in the tri-state area and all
over the country," said Stathi Afendoulis, president/executive director
of Lainie's Angels.
There are 50,000 families in the U.S. with a child who has cancer or a
blood disorder. Lainie's Angels is dedicated to helping these families.
That's why it's the goal of Lainie's Angels to provide an advocate - or
angel - for each of these families to help ease the way. When a child
experiences cancer, a family experiences cancer. Support can make all
the difference during this difficult time. Its mission comes out of the
personal experience of its founders, who have faced this crisis and want
to share what they've learned to make it easier for others.
Lainie's Angels provides the most current information on caring for a
sick child, serving as a clearinghouse for the vast and dizzying array
of resources available. Lainie's Angels does not give medical advice;
but it does provide support for families and help them get the
knowledge they need to make the decisions they face.
"Parent advocacy is definitely needed. You need to have someone you can
trust, who will give you honest answers and not just tell you what you
want to hear...It's wonderful to know that I have someone I can talk
to, someone who understands," says Jill Andrews, a Lainie's Angels
parent.
Tickets are $150 in advance or can be bought at the door. You can
reserve your tickets by contacting Stathi at stathi@lainiesangels.org
or by calling (732) 906-7887.
